If you are buying a home with a septic tank, you should consider having it inspected by a professional septic contractor. By its very nature, defects in septic systems are not readily apparent, yet are one of the most costly repairs you may face.  Our standard home inspection does not include this type of specialized, intrusive inspection. To properly inspect the system, the contractor will need to dig holes to access the underground parts of the system. This will include inspecting the tank, as well as the leach field. It order to inspect the system under a full load it is not recommended to have the tank pumped prior to the inspection.

Buyers Alliance recommends using a Pennsylvania Septage Management Association (PSMA) Certified Member.  Like the Standard of Practice that professional Home Inspectors abide by, a professional PSMA contractor abides by professional standards for septic evaluators thus assuring you receive a thorough septic evaluation. For mor information on septic systems and inspections visit: http://www.psma.net/
